Germany, France, UK call joint statement on internal affairs of Iraq

Ambassadors from the three countries in an interfering manner called the Iraqi government to keep armed groups away from protest sites to be upheld and to hold accountable those who violate this order.

Iran PressMiddle East: The diplomatic missions released a joint statement on Sunday (December 8) saying that the ambassadors had met with Abdul Mahdi to condemn the killing of protesters, including 25 in Baghdad on Friday.

They urged the caretaker prime minister to ensure the protection of the protesters during the demonstrations, according to the statement, and also urged Abdul Mahdi to urgently investigate and hold accountable those responsible for the killings.

“No armed group should be able to operate outside the control of the state,” the statement said.

"The three ambassadors also encouraged the government to ensure that its recent decision to order the Popular Mobilization Forces to stay away from protest locations, and to hold accountable those who violate this order, will be implemented," it said.

In recent weeks, there have been reports of significant financial donations to Iraqi insurgents by the embassies of some Arab countries from the region.

The new round of popular demonstrations in Iraq in a peaceful manner began as of October 25, in various cities, including Baghdad the capital, Karbala, Basra, Najaf and other cities in protest at corruption and the poor state of the economy.

The Iraqis peaceful protests are aimed at forcing the government to meet their demands.

The demonstrations have turned violent with the Iraqi government blaming Iraq's enemies for supporting and funding violent protests in Iraq.
