Mashhad (IP) - The First edition of the Vocational Exhibition for handicapped was held in the Holy city of Mashhad in North-Eastern Iran.

Iran PressIran news: Some 164 disabled people have been contributed to the event. The event is aimed at introducing the capabilities of the handicapped or better said, disabled people.

To identify those disabled people who are considered as skillful persons, to increase the employment factor, boosting the morale and the sense of felicity in the healthy and sound atmosphere, developing the social justice and addressing the needs of the Iranian disabled people are also among the other objects of the event.

The exhibition also showcases the handicrafts made by the Iranian disabled people including leather weaving, rug weaving in Mashhad's Department of Technical and Vocational.

The 3-day event which was kicked off on December 1-wrapped up on December 3, 2019, The disabled people from other parts of Iran including that of the Northern Khorasan, Razavi Khorasan, Kerman in South Eastern Iran as well as Kurdistan in Western Iran were also among the participants of the event.

The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992 by United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.

This year, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) focuses on the empowerment of persons with disabilities for inclusive, equitable and sustainable development as anticipated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which pledges to ‘leave no one behind’ and recognizes disability as a cross-cutting issues, to be considered in the implementation of its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Disability is referenced in various parts of the SDGs and specifically in parts related to education, growth, and employment, inequality, accessibility of human settlements, as well as data collection and monitoring of the SDGs. The disabled people are responsible for 2 percent of Iran's whole population.205/219
