US military presence in Syria is illegal

Iran's Foreign Ministry in a statement called the presence of the US troops in Syria as' illegitimate and unlawful'.

Iran Press/Iran news: The US decision on reducing the American military presence in Syria is an action which should have been taken much earlier", the statement read, reported Iran Press citing Iran's Foreign Ministry website.

Expressing hope about stability and peace in war-torn Syria, as well as the region especially following the recent US move, Iran's Foreign Ministry highlighted that it closely and carefully monitors the worrying news about the expected arrival of Turkish troops in Syria, and strongly believes that such a move would not meet Turkish security needs and concerns but it would rather lead to major casualties on both sides, and would be a financial and humanitarian disaster.

Accordingly, the Islamic Republic of Iran is against any military operation on sovereign Syrian territory, the statement added.

The Islamic Republic of Iran declares its readiness to mediate and contact both Turkish and Syrian officials in case of emergency so that the concerns of both sides would be eased through peaceful approaches.

Iran's Foreign Ministry also highlighted that respecting Syrian territorial integrity as well as the Syrian national sovereignty, along with the Adana agreement, would serve as the best basis for possible upcoming talks.
