Iran Press/ Iran News: It was the Russian side that initiated the creation of BRICS.
On 20 September 2006, the first BRICS Ministerial Meeting was held at the proposal of Russian President Vladimir Putin on the margins of a UN General Assembly Session in New York.
Regarding the continuation of China's role in resolving regional issues, such as what happened in the restoration of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, Chinese ambassador to Tehran, Chang Hua, said: "China has good relations with all countries in the region. Last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Saudi Arabia, and at the beginning of the current year, Iran's president also visited China."
He added: "The Presidents of three countries, including Iran, China, and Saudi Arabia, exchanged views on peace and security in the region, and the Iranian and Saudi sides also stated that they will restore bilateral relations and maintain peace and stability in the area, which China welcomes."
Referring to the signing of an agreement between Tehran and Beijing by the two countries foreign ministers, the Chinese ambassador said: "In our opinion, this is the success of peace and dialogue.Chang Hua also stated that Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed the global security initiative, focusing on resolving disputes through dialogue. The restoration of relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia is a successful model of the global security initiative. China is willing to improve peace and the stability of the region to follow this initiative."
Regarding whether his country will continue to support Iran's membership in organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization(SCO), the Chinese diplomat said: "Certainly, China supports Iran's membership in the BRICS organization. Last year, Chinese President Xi Jinping invited Iran's president to participate in the High Development Dialogue; we support Iran's request to join the BRICS organization, although other members must agree on this."
