Major General Mohammad Bagheri

In a statement on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, the chief of staff of Iran's armed forces, Major General Mohammad Bagheri emphasized the need for further strengthening of Iran's defensive power and deterrent capabilities.

Iran PressIran News: The statement emphasizes that Iran's armed forces will not allow the enemies to disrupt or threaten the peace and security of the Islamic Republic, not even for a moment.

The armed forces are the powerful defensive arm of the Islamic Republic of Iran guaranteeing security of the nation:

Defensive and deterrence power have strategic importance and are absolutely essential for maintaining the security of the country. Thus special attention has been paid to defensive and deterrence power in Iran's military doctrine.

Also the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, in his recent meeting with top commanders and personnel of the Air Force, stressed the need to further strengthen Iran's armed forces, particularly its defensive capabilities, saying: "In order to avoid war, and in order to put an end to threats from the enemies, we must strengthen our armed forces. Weakness encourages the enemy to act. We will not threaten any nation, but we will staunchly defend our independence, sovereignty, and security, and we won't allow others to threaten us."

Iran's armed forces have made spectacular progress in recent years, manufacturing advanced weapons systems and military hardware at home, including a variety of highly-accurate short, medium and long-range ballistic missiles. The deterrence power of Iran's armed forces is quite formidable.

A US think-tank, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, in a recent report names Iran as a country with the largest and most advanced and varied arsenal of ballistic missiles.

Iran's Defense Minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami was quoted as saying: "..... as long as enemies threaten Iran, we will press full speed ahead with strengthening of our armed forces."

Right from the inception of the Islamic Republic, there has been a very close connection and collaboration between the Iranian Army and the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), and the result of this collaboration has been the shaping of a formidable defensive capability for Iran's armed forces. The unrivalled missile power of Iran has given the country a deterrence power which few countries can match.

Abdul Bari Atwan, the famous political and military analyst and veteran journalist, has written: "Donald Trump wants to destabilize Iran. But Iran is a powerful country with considerable military power and ballistic missile capabilities, enough to deter any would-be aggressor."
