Isfahan (IP) - These days, the Chehel Sotoun Museum of Isfahan, which itself was a manifestation of Iranian art, is hosting handicraft artists.

Iran PressIran News: In 105 booths, the Iranian artists have exposed their handicrafts such as khatam, Firoozeh koobi (Turquoise decoration on the copper surface), Repoussé and Chasing, Vitreous enamel (porcelain enamel), Toreutics, Kalamkari, Mosaic, and Kilim waving works.

What adds to the attractiveness of the exhibition is the display of innovative ideas in the handicrafts area.

The city was enlisted in UNESCO's creative cities network in the field of handicrafts and folkloric arts. It was titled 'World Craft City' by the World Crafts Council.

*** Firoozeh Koobi is an Iranian handicraft made of a copper vessel that is covered with inlaid Turquoise stone.

*** Repoussé or repoussage is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a design in low relief.

The powder melts, flows, and then hardens to a smooth, durable vitreous coating. The word vitreous comes from the Latin vitreus, meaning "glassy".

*** Kalamkari is a type of hand-painted cotton textile produced in the Deccan region of India, in the regions formerly part of the Golconda Sultanate, including the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Only natural dyes are used in Kalamkari, which involves twenty-three steps.

*** A kilim is a flat tapestry-woven carpet or rug traditionally produced in countries of the former Persian Empire, including Iran.
