Iran Press/ Iran news: The unveiling ceremony of the bust of Olympic and Paralympic champions was held on Tuesday in the presence of Massoud Soltanifar, Minister of Sports and Youth, Reza Salehi-Amiri, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, the Head of Iran's Budget and Planning Organization, Mohammad Bagher Nobakht, and Tehran's mayor Pirooz Hanachi at the National Olympic Committee.
In this ceremony, the busts of Mahmoud Namjoo, Mohammad Ali Khojastehpour, Mohammad Paziraei, Esmaeil Alamkhah, Aboutaleb Talebi, Parviz Jalayer, Shamseddin Seyyed Abbasi, Mansour Barzegar, Mohammad Reza Mirzaei-Jaberi, and the statue of Gholamreza Takhti were unveiled.
The Minister of Sports said that Iran had participated in 16 Olympics, 8 of which were before the 1979 Islamic Revolution and the other 8 after the Revolution, 4 gold medals bagged before the Revolution, and 15 gold medals after the Islamic Revolution.
Soltanifar also said that Iranian sports have always been among the top 20 countries in the world and in Asia among the top five.
The Minister of Sports and Youth, stating that Iran's quota in the Tokyo Olympics is 65 types of sports, which is a record, said that over 200 countries are members of the Volleyball and Basketball Federation and 12 countries compete in the Olympics, of which Iran is a member.
