Iran Press/Europe: Tazieh is a reenactment performance of Imam Hussain's martyrdom and his companion in the battle of Karbala.
It is an expression of grief and a traditional ceremony of mourning in Muharram. The Battle of Karbala was fought on 10 October 680 (10 Muharram in the year 61 AH of the Islamic calendar) between the army of the second Umayyad caliph 'Yazid I' and Imam Hussain, the third Imam of Shias (Husayn Ibn Ali) at Karbala which is located in southern Iraq.
At the beginning of the month of Muharram and the start of the mourning ceremonies for Imam Hossain's martyrdom, the ' Imam-e Rauf ' group staged two performances in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
The first Tazieh was held for the first time in a church. The amphitheater hall of the "Patriot Community" Church in the center of Budapest hosted the first Tazieh and the second one was held in the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hungary which received great attention from the participants.
The stage of Tazieh in a church indicates that Imam Hussain and the Ashura Movement are known as the heritage of humanity and also a message of peace for followers of all religions.
The presence of some Hungarian cultural and artistic figures in this ceremony and their attention to this rich Iranian religious ritual also confirms this point.
Muslims residing in Hungary from countries such as Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and Bangladesh, as well as many Hungarian nationals interested in Iranian culture and art, attend two Tazieh performances.
