Tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban in Afghanistan have escalated following cross-border airstrikes by Islamabad.

Iran Press/Asia: The strained relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban government took a violent turn after Pakistan targeted positions within Afghan territory. In response, Taliban forces engaged with Pakistani border troops, further inflaming tensions.

Fighting has intensified along the border regions, with casualties reported on both sides. On Saturday, Tolo News cited sources in Afghanistan's Ministry of Defense, reporting that at least 19 Pakistani soldiers and three Afghan civilians were killed during border skirmishes in the Khost and Paktia provinces.

Reacting to Pakistan’s claims that Afghan soil is being used by Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) for terrorist activities, Sirajuddin Haqqani, a spokesperson for the Taliban government, took to the social platform X, formerly Twitter. “Everyone should solve their own problems. Look to your own house!” he wrote, rejecting Islamabad's accusations.

Haqqani further emphasized the Taliban’s commitment under the Doha Agreement, stating, “We have assured the world that no country will be threatened under our rule. Your problems are of your own making.” He added that Pakistan's recent actions go against established norms and have deeply hurt the Afghan people, erasing decades of goodwill.

The clashes come amid reports of a deadly airstrike by Pakistan in eastern Afghanistan last Wednesday, which Taliban officials claim resulted in 46 casualties. The Afghan Ministry of Defense has vowed to retaliate, promising consequences for Islamabad's actions.
