Iran PressIran news: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government was toppled as the militant groups began to encroach on some parts of Aleppo on November 27, 2024, while attacking army positions, and step by step reached Damascus' royal palace.

Fatemeh Mohajerani told reporters in her weekly news conference on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic's ties with Syria have always been based on respect for Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Mohajerani noted that it was up to the Syrian people to decide their fate and that Iran would closely monitor the developments in Syria.

She put emphasis on the fact that the newly emerged ruling power's respect for the holy site, the preservation of the pilgrim's dignity, and the protection of the historical-civilizational heritages in the country are of high importance for the Islamic Republic in its ties with Syria.

During the last three days, the Islamic Republic has taken back about 4,000 Iranians to the country through flights, she added.

Relations with the Israeli regime was another important criterion the spokeswoman of the Iranian government highlighted that will be allowed for in the Iranian foreign policy toward the ruling power in Syria.

As with the current approach to the ruling power in Syria, Mohajerani told reporters that the contacts between Tehran and Damascus would be maintained as soon as a minimal re-establishment of power in Syria took place.
