IP- Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, has congratulated Iranian president-elect Masoud Pezeshkian on his victory in the country's snap presidential election.

Iran Press/Asia: In his message, Aliyev invited Pezeshkian to visit Azerbaijan to discuss the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation.

The text of Aliyev's message published in Azertag news agency is as follows:

I heartily congratulate you on your election as the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

We attach great importance to the relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran built on solid foundations such as common religious and cultural roots, friendship, and brotherhood. It is gratifying that over the past decades, our mutually beneficial cooperation has developed dynamically and reached its current level, gaining new content in all domains, especially in the economy, transport, energy, and humanitarian spheres.

Today, the agreements reached on the future development areas of Azerbaijan-Iran relations based on mutual respect and good neighborliness and the implemented joint projects serve the well-being of our countries and the sustainable development and security of the region as a whole.

I am confident that through our joint efforts, we will ensure further strengthening of the traditional friendly relations and the expansion of mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran in line with the interests of our peoples and countries.

I invite you to pay a visit to Azerbaijan to exchange views on the prospects for the development of our bilateral cooperation.

Pezeshkian won the June 5 election race, securing 16,384,403 votes, while his rival Saeed Jalili managed to secure 13,538,179 votes, according to an announcement made by Mohsen Eslami, the spokesperson for Iran's election headquarters.

The gap between the two candidates was more than two million votes in the end. Pezeshkian will replace Ebrahim Raisi, who embraced martyrdom during a helicopter crash in Iran's northwestern mountainous region on May 19.

The invitation from the Azerbaijani President to the Iranian president-elect highlights the importance of the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
