Tehran (IP) – The Australian ambassador to Iran, Ian McConville, was summoned by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday following the publication of social media content by the Australian Embassy that was deemed offensive to Iranian and Islamic traditions.

Iran PressIran news: The incident occurred after the Australian Embassy in Tehran posted content on its social media platforms that was disrespectful to Iranian cultural and religious values. In response, the Iranian Foreign Ministry's Regional Director expressed strong disapproval during a formal meeting with Ambassador McConville.

"The content published by the Australian Embassy is insulting and contrary to Iranian and Islamic traditions, customs, and culture," the Iranian official conveyed. The official further warned that such actions should not be repeated, emphasizing that they violated international law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The Iranian side also highlighted the sensitivity of the Iranian public regarding their country’s foreign relations, particularly when it comes to actions perceived as disrespectful or abnormal.

Ambassador McConville, in response, clarified that the embassy did not intend to offend the Iranian people or disregard the values of Iranian society. He assured the Iranian officials that he would relay their concerns and the position of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Australian government in Canberra.
