Iran Press/ Middle East: A Syrian security source confirmed that 20 soldiers were killed and 10 were wounded in the attack. The ambush took place on the T2 road in Badia Al-Mayadeen.
This incident comes after ISIS announced the death of its leader, Abu Al-Hussein Al-Husseini Al-Qurashi, during clashes with HTS, an Al-Qaeda-affiliated group in Idlib. Abu Hafs Al-Hashimi Al-Quraishi has been named the new leader of ISIS, making him the group's fifth leader.
Media outlets close to militant groups in northwestern Syria reported on August 9 that armed factions affiliated with the Turkish-backed "Syrian National Army" in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo have begun registering the names of some of their members for transfer to the Al-Tanf area on the Syrian-Jordanian border.
The registration process is said to be facilitated by the leaders of these militant groups and is open to all factions, components, and even civilians. Sources cited coordination between the leadership of the "Syrian Free Army" and the components of the "Syrian National Army."
These developments coincide with intensified military training and maneuvers by US-led International Coalition forces in recent days, some involving live ammunition within a 55 km area at the Syrian-Iraqi-Jordanian border triangle.
