East Azarbaijan province as one of the main places of weaving handwoven carpets in Iran is named as the world Carpet Weaving City by the World Crafts Council (WCC)
World's biggest indoor market, located in Tabriz, and most of the handwoven carpet shops are located there.
Stressing the importance of handwoven carpet in East Azerbaijan, weavers in Tabriz workshops, in an interview with IranPress correspondence, named all the carpet weavers as artists who create masterpieces and send them to the market.
The texture of the Tabriz carpet looks like a painting such that some may think it is a machine-made carpet.
Turks head knot, texture, materials, and patterns are the unique features of Tabriz carpets.
Referring to the high status of Iranian carpets, originated from traditional culture, Deputy for Tabriz Handwoven Carpet Sellers Union Ayub Bashiri in an interview with IranPress correspondence noted that Iranian Carpets are combinations of art and craft, which are exported to the world.
Bashiri, elsewhere, said that Pazyryk carpet, known as Iranian carpet, was discovered 2500 years BC and is kept in one of the Russian museums.
