Iran Press/ Iran news: The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alan Simonian, who has traveled to Tehran at the invitation of the Speaker of Iran's parliament, on Thursday evening met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Hossein Amir Abdollahian.
During the meeting, Amir Abdollahian called Armenia an important friend and neighbor of the Islamic Republic of Iran and, citing high-level political relations between the two countries, stressed the need to develop economic cooperation and take advantage of the two countries' diverse capacities.
Iran's top diplomat announced the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to increase trade with Armenia to the level of one billion dollars a year.
In another part, Iran's Foreign Minister called energy and transportation two important areas of cooperation between the two countries and considered Armenia an integral part of the international corridor of the Persian Gulf-Black Sea corridor.
Amirabdollahian announced the readiness of Iranian companies to complete Armenian infrastructure projects, especially in the field of transportation.
The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Alan Simonian also expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between the two countries at the bilateral level and in international forums. He stated that the Republic of Armenia considers the Islamic Republic of Iran as an effective and influential country in the region and pays special attention to the development of relations with Iran.
According to an Armenian parliament statement at the meeting, Simonian also stressed the importance of “strategic dialogue” between Armenia and Iran, saying that it will pave the way for “substantial progress” in bilateral ties.
In another part, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, stating that his country is moving towards a peaceful path in the region, called for the assistance of the Islamic Republic of Iran to conclude a bilateral peace agreement with the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Welcoming the comprehensive development of relations between the two countries, Simonian said: "His country has no restrictions on the expansion of relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran."
He also called the establishment of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Syunik Province a turning point in the relations between the two countries and announced the readiness of Armenia to establish a Consulate General in Tabriz.
