Iran Press/ Iran news: The prayer of Arafah was held on Tuesday evening in the presence of pilgrims in the Holy Prophet (PBUH) courtyard of the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi province, northeast of Iran.
Eid al-Adha, or ‘Feast of the Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Abraham’s (known as Ibrahim in Arabic) willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, according to God's order.
The satan tried to discourage the Prophet Abraham by saying he should disobey God and let his son go. As Abraham was about to kill his son, God gave Prophet Abraham a sheep instead of slaughtering.
Iran is celebrating Eid al-Adha on July 21 this year. The occasion is a four- or five-day public holiday in most Islamic countries.
Arafah prayer is annually held in Mount Arafat in Mecca, where the Hajj pilgrims go there to stay a day before Eid al-Adha for ritual in Mina field.
