Tehran (IP) - Senior MP and member of the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy commission has stressed that Iran-Japan relations have been excellent after the victory of the Islamic revolution, and prime minister Shinzo Abe's trip to Tehran is not solely for mediation between Tehran and Washington.

Iran Press/ Iran news: In an exclusive interview with Iran Press on Sunday, senior MP Alaeddine Boroujerdi praised the excellent relations between Tehran and Tokyo and said prime minister Shinzo Abe's visit to Tehran is taking place within the framework of bilateral ties between Iran and Japan.

Boroujerdi pointedly added: "Speculation that Shinzo Abe's trip to Tehran is aimed at mediation between Tehran and Washington is just that -- simply speculation and nothing more."

The member of the Iranian parliament's national security and foreign policy commission added: "Naturally the most important global issues will be discussed at length, and important political issues will be discussed, and Iran's key role in fighting terrorism in the region will certainly be discussed, and also America's role in creating various terror groups such as Daesh terrorists and America's support for terrorism will be discussed with prime minister Shinzo Abe, but it is untrue to say that the trip's sole aim is for Japan to mediate between Tehran and Washington.

Asked why Iran's petrochemical sector has now been targeted by US sanctions, Alaeddine Boroujerdi stressed that the US uses every pressure lever possible to exert pressure on Iran, often illegally, and the sanctions on Iran's petrochemical sector is just one such example.

The senior MP asked Rhetorically: "Were America's other sanctions against Iran ever legal? The Americans were supposed to lift sanctions against Iran according to the agreement which they themselves signed and the UN security council endorsed. Donald Trump showed that he does not respect any international treaty or agreement. Of course, the Americans have very few allies internationally. Important countries like China and Russia recently signed an agreement to eliminate the dollar from Moscow-Beijing trade, and this is a very important anti-American agreement with far-reaching effects."

Boroujerdi added: "I believe that sanctions on Iran's petrochemical sector is yet another illegal US action, but it will have no effect on Iran's contacts and transactions with the rest of the world."
