Moscow (IP): The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Russia met to expand cooperation between the two sides.

Iran PressEurope: Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov met on Wednesday in Moscow, stressing the expansion of the cooperation by the two sides at the bilateral and regional level and in the different areas.

Lavrov said in the meeting: "Despite COVID-19 Pandemic the talks are underway at the regular political level within presidential format of the two sides."

The new theme in the talks would be the acceptance of Iran's membership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), but the main priority is given to JCPOA talks.

Russian FM: JCPOA should be implemented

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) should be implemented with no further additional unimportant issues.

Amir-Abdollahian, for his part, said in the new negotiations between Iran and Russia, efforts should be made to achieve a serious leap in the relations between the two countries.

The Iranian Foreign Minister stated: "We have regional and bilateral cooperation and today we will have more talks and emphasize the development of trade cooperation."

Amir-Abdollahian said: "It is a good opportunity to talk about international developments, including the South Caucasus, Yemen and Afghanistan."

The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran arrived in Moscow yesterday (Tuesday) with the aim of consulting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on issues such as the UN Security Council, Afghanistan, the situation in the Caspian Sea and the South Caucasus region, as well as Middle East issues.

The Foreign Ministers of Iran and Russia met and emphasized the development of cooperation.
