Iran Press/Africa: Demonstrators emphasized that the Israeli regime continues to receive backing from various Western colonial powers.
A community activist highlighted the failures of international law, despite efforts by the South African government to charge Israel with genocide at the International Court of Justice. “It is clear that Israel operates outside the bounds of international law. If it were held accountable, we wouldn’t be witnessing a year of genocide,” said Moeshfika Botha. “Yet we see countries like America, the UK, and Australia standing by Israel as it targets Lebanon and Syria.”
Botha called for accountability, insisting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should face arrest whenever he travels abroad. He lamented that the UK and EU continue to support Netanyahu, stating, “The blood of Palestinians sustains the economy of the colonizers.”
Despite South Africa's declarations of support for Palestinian self-determination, opposition parties accused the government of maintaining ties with Tel Aviv due to private deals. A representative from the opposition uMkhonto we Sizwe party declared that Zionism must end.
“As South Africans, we stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people. This genocide must stop. Children are being killed by the Israeli government,” he stated emphatically.
The rally featured banners proclaiming “We are all Hamas,” with many demonstrators carrying images of slain resistance leaders Ismail Haniyeh and Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah. Anti-apartheid activist Cassiem Khan emphasized that true perseverance comes from leadership that supports its people.
“The resistance continues until the last person stands,” Khan asserted. “We must resist in every form—whether on the street or in combat.”
The march was endorsed by a broad coalition of organizations, including political parties, civil movements, labor unions, and religious groups, reflecting a unified call for justice and an end to violence against Palestinians.
