Iran Press/ Iran News: In an interview with Iran Press in Shiraz, Dr. Malek-Hosseini said: "Shiraz Abu-Ali Sina Hospital is one of the largest transplant hospitals in Iran and even in the world; it has a liver, kidney, heart and pancreas transplant departments, and there have been more than 6,000 liver transplants so far."
He noted that the hospital is the first in the world due to organ transplant from brain death, and Iran ranks first in the world in liver and kidney transplant.
He said the hospital is one of the best medical centers globally in terms of patient survival after organ transplant.
He also stated that people from countries in the region come to Abu-Ali Sina medical center for organ transplants, and this issue has led to an increase in the trend.
Right now, Abu-Ali Sina Hospital in Shiraz performs 638 liver transplants annually and ranks first globally. Previously, the United States had the highest liver transplant rate, with 561 transplants per year.
Around 250-260 kidney transplants from brain death and 30 to 40 pancreas transplants are performed annually in Abu-Ali Sina Hospital.
Dr. Ali Malek-Hosseini performed the first liver transplant in Iran from a living person and has been introduced in the medical encyclopedia as the father of liver transplantation in Iran.
In September 2020, he was one of the four scientists to receive the award of the Transplantation Society for his tremendous impact on the advancement of transplant knowledge.
