An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale rocked Sisakht city near Yasuj on Wednesday.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 8:38 hours local time (4:08 GMT) in an area located at the depth of 8 km underground.

The Head of Iran Emergency Organization Mojtaba Khaledi said on Wednesday that four people were injured as a result of the quake, and all of them are receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.

Also on Sunday, a 5.3-Richter quake rattled the area, as result of which 54 people were injured.
