There is still hope amid 100-hour rescues as seven people were rescued from beneath the rubble of the Turkey-Syria earthquakes which has left at least 21,500 dead. But time is running out as rescuers say freezing temperatures have diminished the likelihood of finding survivors trapped since Monday.

Iran PressAsia: Rescue workers in Iskenderun in southern Turkey have pulled six people from a collapsed building after they spent 101 hours beneath the rubble.

The six people, all relatives, survived by huddling together in a small pocket left within the collapsed structure, Murat Baygul, a search and rescue worker, told the Associated Press news agency.

Also, Al Jazeera reported that rescuers pulled a woman alive out of the rubble of a collapsed building in Turkey, prompting cheers from onlookers about 104 hours after she was buried by the huge earthquake that wrought death and destruction across the region.

The death toll from the Turkey-Syria earthquakes has passed 21,500. At least 18,342 people have been killed in Turkey, according to the country’s officials — surpassing the toll from the devastating 1999 earthquake in that country.

At least 3,377 people are known to have died in Syria.
