Iran Press/America: Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political office of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), and one of his bodyguards were martyred in a terrorist attack in Tehran on the morning of Wednesday, July 31.
Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran's Vice President for Strategic Affairs, who has traveled to New York to participate in the annual meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, in an interview with the American NBC channel, referring to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the former head of the political office of the Hamas, stated that Iran has the right to retaliate at any time for what he called Iran's "obvious violation of sovereignty".
The vice president of strategic affairs stated that after the assassination of Martyr Haniyeh, the international community asked Iran to exercise restraint to end the Gaza war, but the promise of a ceasefire agreement was never fulfilled.
Explaining the view that the Iranian government is ready to cooperate with other countries to end the Gaza war, Zarif stated that Iran wants to move towards a more peaceful and stable world for its citizens and the citizens of other countries, stressing that Iran is not looking for war, but it will defend itself.
In another part of his interview with NBC, the vice president for strategic affairs pointed out the ill-considered withdrawal of the United States from the nuclear agreement (JCPOA) and said that the Trump administration made a miscalculation by withdrawing from the JCPOA.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi during his trip to New York said that Tehran is focused on starting a new round of nuclear negotiations, and if the other parties are ready, another round for these negotiations can be determined.
On May 8, 2018, Donald Trump, the former president of the United States, unilaterally violated Washington's obligations under the JCPOA announced the withdrawal of his country from this international agreement, and announced the return of illegal sanctions against Iran.
