Iran Press/Middle East: In a statement on Friday night, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi ordered the lifting of a government-enforced curfew following protests in some parts of the country. It should be noted that the order was issued after a key security meeting.
It was not immediately clear if curfews put in place in other cities throughout Iraq over the ongoing unrest would also be lifted, Aljazeera reported.
Protests in Iraq have intensified since Tuesday, with the death toll rising to 48. Some media outlets have reported more than 60 deaths associated with the recent Iraqi protests.
Peaceful protests by Iraqi citizens turned violent and ugly, with suggestions that social media activists from abroad are organizing the protests.
Some Iraqi cities, including Baghdad, have witnessed protests since last Tuesday against corruption, with protesters angry about a lack of seriousness to fight corruption and unemployment by the Iraqi government.
