Iran's diplomatic mission at the United Nations has categorically rejected a US claim about an attack on two oil tankers in the Sea of Oman, forthrightly condemning the unsubstantiated US accusations in the strongest possible terms.

Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's diplomatic mission at the UN issued a statement rejecting the US accusations and adding: "The seditious comments at the UN security council meeting by America's permanent representative to the UN regarding suspicious events in the Sea of Oman on Thursday 13 June, categorically rejected US claims about attack on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman is just one more example of the psychological warfare and Iranophobia campaign that America is waging against Iran."

The statement added: "America's invitation to Iran to reengage in diplomacy and negotiations is comical and sad, given the fact that the United States illegally and unilaterally withdrew from the landmark nuclear deal (JCPOA). America's economic war and economic terrorism against Iran, and its heavy military presence in the middle east region has always been the root cause of instability and insecuirty in this region. No amount of misinformation, false-flag operations, pointing an accusing finger at others, and fabricated news can change this reality. America and its allies must end their belligerence, plots and schemes, and stop secret operations to frame up innocent countries.

The statement went on to say: "Tehran once again warns in relation to US strong-arm tactics, threats and intimidation, and declares its concerns against suspicious events with regards to two oil tankers on Thursday 13 June in the Sea of Oman."

"Iran strongly urges the international community to strongly act against the irresponsible and dangerous behaviour and policies of the United States and its allies in the region -- behaviour which has resulted in a sharp rise in tensions in the region. The Islamic Republic of Iran once again emphasises that the only way to reduce tensions is for all regional countries to take part in a region-wide constructive dialogue based on mutual respect and international law. Recent suspicious events in the region only strengthen calls for such a dialogue."

The acting representative of the United States at the UN, Jonathan Cohen, accused Iran of being behind an alleged attack on two oil tankers in the Sea of Oman on Thursday night, after an emergency session of the UN security council in New York convened to discuss the situation in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.

Also America's Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Iran of being behind the attack on the two oil tankers on Thursday afternoon, without supplying any proof or evidence to back up his claim.  Tehran has categorically and repeatedly rejected the accusation.

The UN secretary general António Guterres strongly condemned Thursday morning's incidents in the Sea of Oman and said the world could not afford a major confrontation in the region.
