Iran Foreign Minister in a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff called for joint cooperation and efforts for border security and accelerating efforts for the release of Iranian abducted border guards.

Iran Press/Asia: Mohammad Javad Zarif and Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa also talk about cooperation for establishing peace and security in the region, particularly in Yemen and Afghanistan on Friday.

During the meeting between Zarif and Bajwa in Islamabad, matters of mutual interest and Pak-Iran relations came under discussion.

Iranian Foreign Minister had arrived in Islamabad a day earlier on a two-day visit. It is pertinent to mention that this is Zarif’s tenth visit to Pakistan since he became Iranian foreign minister in 2013.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa had also visited Iran in November 2017 year and met with Iranian leaders to further enhance coordination between the two countries, especially in the defense sector.

About a week ago, Zarif visited Turkmenistan, India, Japan and China and held talks with top officials of the four Asian countries on the US measures to create tension in the region and Iranian commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action endorsed by the UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

Twelve Iranian border guards were kidnapped on October 16 by the so-called Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group at the Mirjaveh border point in Iran's southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province and were transferred to Pakistan.

Over the past years, Iranian security forces and border guards have engaged in several clashes with terror groups, many of whom tried to enter the country from Pakistan and Iraq to carry out attacks.

On 20 March, four of 12 abducted Iranian guards were released.  105/205
