Iran's Foreign Minister arrived in Islamabad on Thursday night to hold meetings with Pakistani authorities on bilateral ties and latest regional developments.

Iran Press/Asia: Mohammad Javad Zarif was welcomed by Senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Iran's ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost upon his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase of Islamabad.

During his two-day visit to Pakistan, the Iranian foreign minister is expected to meet Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan, foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and the speaker of the national assembly Asad Qaiser, IRNA reported.

"We believe that Chabahar - one of Iran's developing seaports in Oman sea - and Gwadar - a port city on the southwestern coast of Balochistan, Pakistan, also in Oman sea - can complement each other," Iranian foreign minister told the reporters when arrived in Pakistan.

"We can connect the two seaports and then connect Gwadar to our entire railroad system and from Iran to the North Corridor through Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and also Azerbaijan, Russia and also to Turkey," Zarif told the reporters adding: "We have a project to develop and connect our railroad with Iraq."

Iranian FM concluded that he has come to Pakistan with proposals for connection of the two mentioned seaports.

Zarif is also expected to meet Pakistan's army chief general Qamar Javed Bajwa.

He will brief the Pakistani leadership on the latest regional developments and bilateral ties.

This is Zarif’s tenth visit to Pakistan since he became Iranian foreign minister in 2013.
