Iran Press/Iran news: Iran’s foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif marked the Day of the Persian Gulf through release of a video showing his latest remarks in the Asia Society meeting focusing on the subject of the Persian Gulf.
According to an Iran Press report, during the event which was held on 24 April, Iran’s Foreign Minister and Asia Society President and CEO Josette Sheeran discussed the latest political issues regarding Iran and the USA.
Zarif described the Persian Gulf as Iran's 'lifeline', adding that the Persian Gulf can be regarded as the world’s lifeline as well.
"It is called the Persian Gulf and we repeat the word so that people know it’s not the Gulf of Mexico,” Zarif highlighted.
Referring to those who want to rewrite history, by distorting the name of the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Gulf, Zarif recalled that the name Persian Gulf has been mentioned and acknowledged by top officials in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Foreign Minister Zarif went on to emphasize that names of countries, places, oceans, and seas should not be distorted or dealt with in a rather childish manner and historic names should be kept.
The Persian Gulf is a waterway which is connected to the Sea of Oman, and thus to the Indian Ocean, and is sandwiched between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula. Since ancient times this body of water has been known as 'the Persian Gulf' or 'the Sea of Pars' or 'the Sea of Fars' in many different languages and by many different peoples.
In recent years however, some regional Arab countries on the edge of the Persian Gulf, egged on by Western powers hostile towards Iran, have deliberately tried to change or distort the well-known name of this ancient body of water, going against all historic documents and records, and some might say have tried to 'rewrite history'.
This ill-judged and malicious effort is bound to fail, it will never pass the test of time, and the Persian Gulf will be known forever as the Persian Gulf, not just in Iran but throughout the world.
