Golestan (IP) - President Hassan Rouhani has emphasized that the government he leads will remain fully supportive of flood-hit people of Iran until all floodwaters are drained, and all damage has been repaired.

Iran Press/Iran news: Speaking on Wednesday afternoon at the Golestan province 'Coordinating Council for Crisis Management Meeting', president Rouhani emphasized that the services provided by the government, the armed forces and IRGC to flood-stricken people is 'a source of pride'.

He added: "One of the positive points that I have noticed in this province is the unity of the people. I thank all the people and officials who have been involved in aid and rescue efforts in this province. The unity, sympathy, and selfless sacrifices made by the IRGC, the Iranian Army, Basij (volunteer) forces, and rescue and relief personnel have been absolutely wonderful. They have all been actively assisting the flood-hit people."

Turning to difficult weather conditions for helicopters to fly in Golestan province, President Rouhani said: "Rain, of course, is a blessing from the Almighty. What this region needs is a well-fed river which can carry all the floodwaters to the (Caspian) Sea. I thank everyone who has been involved in rescue and relief efforts in this province."

Universal insurance, a solution to unexpected natural disasters

In further comments, President Rouhani said: "Thankfully, most houses in Aqqala and Gomishan towns -- two towns most affected by the floods -- are covered by insurance. All houses should be insured against natural disasters. Universal insurance is a very good solution to paying for natural disasters of this kind. The government supports 'the housing foundation' (Bonyad-e-Maskan) in order to reconstruct flood-damaged houses in this region."

Rouhani: Solving people's problems is our duty

After visiting flooded areas in northern province of Golestan, Hassan Rouhani said that addressing people's problems in flooded areas is our duty and we'll do our best to compensate for flood damage suffered in the shortest possible time.

Iran's president in his visit to flood-stricken areas in 'Chin Sebili' Rural District in Golestan province on Wednesday said: "Resilient and tolerant people of this area have tried in recent days to resolve the problems created by floodwaters; they have rightful and just demands from their government and we will do our best to solve all of these problems."
