Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Baghdad on Sunday as part of his four-day trip to Iraq, promoting bilateral relations between Tehran and Baghdad.

Iran Press/Iran news: According to Iran Press, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Iraq Sunday evening, a trip aimed at promoting bilateral ties. 

Upon his arrival in Baghdad airport, Zarif told reporters that enhancing bilateral relation between Iran and Iraq is on the agenda of his trip along with his accompanying politico-economic delegation.

"Iraqi government's positive positions toward the two countries relations lead to promotion in economic and also other ties", Iranian foreign minister said in his visit to Iraq on Sunday.

While praising the Iraqi government for its supportive stance vis-a-vis US sanctions, Iranian foreign minister expressed hope that with the help of Iraqi officials, those positive stances would become operational as a result of this visit.

He also added that after the victory in Iraq against ISIS, Iran-Iraq relations encountered problems made by some countries, one of them is the US, which failed with the two countries governments wisdom.

The foreign minister mentioned that the US has failed in its 40-year long policy of sanctions against Iran.

Iranian Foreign Minister held talks with his Iraqi counterpart Mohamed Ali Alhakim. He is also supposed to hold talks with President of Iraq Barham Salih, Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi and Speaker of the Council of Representatives of Iraq Mohamed al-Halbousi.

Senior managers of several Iranian state and private firms, top businessmen and entrepreneurs also accompany Zarif on his trip to Iraq. 103/ 211 /209
