Iran Press/Iran news: Iran's First Vice President Eshagh Jahangiri made the remarks in a meeting with Managing Director of Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL Group) and senior staff and managers of some other Iranian shipping companies on Saturday.
According to an Iran Press report, Eshagh Jahangiri said: “Under the circumstances that foreign shipping companies have severed their cooperation with Iran due to the [US] sanctions, there is a double burden on domestic companies to keep the path open to import and export of sanctioned goods.”
Stating that the government will make every effort to solve the problems facing Iranian shipping firms, the vice president praised the shipping companies for continuing their activities under difficult circumstances, and 'under the weight of heavy sanctions'.
He further named fuel supply, tax issues, and container shortage as some of the problems faced by Iranian shipping companies, promising to seriously tackle these issues, and lessen the burden of the shipping industry.
On 12 December 2018, Hassan Rouhani, president of Islamic Republic of Iran said: "Sanction is a form of economic and psychological war against Iran."
On 8 December, the speaker of Iran's Parliament, Ali Larijani said: "All countries have condemned US sanctions. The US can not go forward in the world using the instrument of sanction."
US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew Washington from the nuclear agreement in May and reintroduced sanctions on Iran in August.
The US withdrawal was met with worldwide criticism, particularly by other signatories to the international agreement. Britain, France, Russia, China, Germany and the European Union have stressed their compliance with the deal and their support for its proper implementation. 103
