Iranian Foreign Minister said that parliamentary relations is a key factor in expanding the relations between Iranian and Azerbaijani people.

Iran news: Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Republic, Ogtay Asadov, on Tuesday evening in Tehran said that political relations between Iran and Azerbaijan is at the highest level due to the will of the leaders of the two countries, Iran Press reported.

"Despite the 40 percent increase in economic and trade relations this year compared with last year, the volume of trade can still be increased, and economic ties must be upgraded to the level of political relations", Zarif reiterated.

The Iranian foreign minister also hoped that implementing joint projects and using the capacity of transit corridors between Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan, would lead to strengthening of economic and commercial ties between the two countries.

(The Azerbaijani official and accompanying delegation also had a number of meetings with other top Iranian officials including Iranian president Hassan Rouhani and the country's Parliament Speaker, Ali Larijani on Tuesday)

Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ogtay Asadov also said in this meeting a shared culture, history and geography, has given great importance to Iran-Azerbaijan relations.

Pointing to the importance of the South-North Corridor, which will have many benefits for the two countries, the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament emphasized the implementation of the South-North corridor project.
