The Iranian defence minister on Thursday inaugurated two large factories producing advanced industrial and military vehicle batteries.

Iran Press/ Iran news: The two plants manufacturing new generations of industrial and vehicle batteries were inaugurated by Iran's defence minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami on Thursday 27 September.

According to a Tasnim news agency report, the new plants can produce more than 6 million vehicle batteries and 1 million small batteries used in military and industrial settings each year. The products could also be used for telecommunication systems and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) devices.   

The factories have created hundreds of new job opportunities.

In comments in November 2017, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei called for the expansion of the Iranian Navy’s capabilities by making use of advances in other sectors.

In April that year, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani hailed the country’s capacity to manufacture military hardware, saying Iran’s export of defense equipment had jumped by 227 percent during 2013-2017.
