The Leader of the Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, met with members of Iran's Assembly of Experts in Tehran on Thursday. Commenting on those who are hostile towards the Islamic republic, the Leader said: "In addition to economic war, ill-wishers have started a media war against Tehran".

Iran Press/Iran News: The meeting was held on Thursday morning. In his meeting with members of the  Assembly of Experts the Leader said:  "The most important duty of the elite and top officials, under current circumstances,  is to strengthen the connection and the bond between people and the government,  and  not to allow a climate of hopelessness to take shape. The ill-wishers of the Iranian nation have started a propaganda and media campaign against us, in addition to the economic war they are waging.  Thus criticisms of the government should be helpful, constructive and done with the best of intentions."

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader said there is a history of Western media campaigning against Iran, but at the moment this campaigning has intensified. The Leader pointedly added:  "According to intelligence and information that we have, the US and Israeli intelligence services,  with financial support of the various puppet regimes of the region, have set up a media war centre to plan and coordinate a campaign of misinformation and lies against the Islamic republic, to poison public opinion.

Elaborating further the Leader said: "The main aims of this media war is to cause  anxiety, disappointment, a feeling of hopelessness, pessimism, doubt and cynicism within society, and to exaggerate Iran's current economic problems.  All of us must be careful not to play into enemy hands , and we mustn't help the enemy in its negative media campaign.  We also mustn't allow the general climate of the country to become pessimistic and cynical, whereby the good and positive work done by the government becomes hard to believe, and  the lies and misinformation of the enemy easy to believe. This is a very dangerous situation and we mustn't allow that to happen."

Turning to the importance of national unity , the Leader said: "It is important to guide public opinion towards national unity and national solidarity.  Our situation today is very sensitive , but this sensitivity is not because our enemies are powerful or their numbers are many.  In fact, since the beginning of the Islamic revolution, these enemies have existed, and you could even argue that they were relatively more powerful in the early days of the revolution. But despite all their hostilities towards Islamic Iran, for example the failed US military intervention in Tabas ( in 1980 ) , the eight years of imposed war on Iran, the shooting down of an Iranian commercial passenger jet in the Persian Gulf in 1988, and many years of sanctions and embargoes, the enemies have had little success and they haven't achieved any of their objectives. Today, Islamic Iran, like a deep-rooted tree, and is growing and bearing fruit."

In further remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei  said: "The government must make appropriate use of expert opinion and academic opinion when it comes to solving problems, for example economic problems such as the reduction in value of the national currency, or how to control liquidity and credit, and this is the duty of every government , to consult and make use of specialists and experts in solving problems."

Prior to their meeting with Leader, members of the Assembly of Experts attended the mausoleum of late Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace) and paid tribute to him.

The fifth round of the fifth meeting of the Assembly was to review major domestic and international issues, including the current economic problems of the country.
