Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology has emphasised that Tehran will continue its cooperation with the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) to develop peaceful aerospace applications.

Iran Press/Europe: Stressing the fact that UNOOSA has always supported Iran’s peaceful aerospace achievements, Mohammad Javad Jahromi added that regarding next year’s plan to launch a new satellite into space, Tehran will continue cooperation to develop peaceful aerospace achievements.

Addressing a meeting with the Head of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, Simonetta Di Pippo, Jahromi expressed hope for the cooperation to improve environmental conditions and to further boost Iran’s interests in peaceful aerospace applications, Iran Press reported.

Jahromi also welcomed holding two workshops in Iran to solve environmental problems like drought, managing floods and protecting forests. 

Jahromi went on to say that both sides agreed to hold regional and international workshops, with countries closely involved in environmental issues attending. 

On the sidelines of the event, Jahromi also visited a satellite and space achievements’ exhibition. 

Jahromi heading a delegation is currently on a visit to Geneva to participate in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in Switzerland.

He then travelled to Vienna, Austria to sign a cooperation document with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) is a part of the United Nations Secretariat, located at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna, Austria. 

It is tasked with implementing the decisions of the United Nations General Assembly and of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space. 101/211/202
