Iran Press: Iranian Parliament speaker Ali Larijani met the speaker of Russia's state Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin in southwest city of Volgograd on Thursday.
Larijani said Iran and Russia have played a remarkable role in combating terrorism in the region, adding that terrorists in Syria are taking their last breaths, Pars Today reported.
During the meeting, Larijani voiced appreciation for the decisions made by Russian President Putin and his counterpart Vyacheslav Volodin that have increased the level of cooperation between the two countries in the fight against terrorism in the region.
He then noted the increased pressure exerted by US, and the imposition of sanctions, against Iran and Russia, saying this trend shows that the US’ issue lies somewhere else entirely.
The Russian parliamentary official, for his part, voiced confidence that Larijani’s visit would help develop cooperation and interaction between the two countries.
He added that bilateral relations between Tehran and Moscow are on an upward trajectory, calling for further expansion of parliamentary cooperation between the two sides.
Before attending the Iran-Russia joint parliamentary commission meeting, Larijani laid a wreath and paid his respect to the fallen soldiers of the battle of Leningrad.

Meanwhile, Iran foreign ministry spokesman, Bahram Ghasemi, has said Iran, Russia, Turkey trilateral summit will be held on Friday (7 September 2018) in Tehran and the main goal of the summit is to find a fundamental political solution to the crisis in Syria.

Also, Iranian foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif stressed talks with Syrian officials is necessary ahead of Trilateral meeting on Syria to be held in Tehran on 7 September.
Referring to a meeting which will be held by presidents of Iran, Russia and Turkey to discuss Syria, Mohamad Javad Zarif added next Friday, the trio will discuss how to deal with the extremists and terrorists, including the al-Nusra Front.
"After the victory of Resistance Front against extremist and terrorist groups; it is high time that Syria was reconstructed" Zarif said upon arrival at Damascus International Airport.
Syria is purging terrorists from the country and the remaining terrorists, including Tahrir al-Sham (Al-Nusra Front) should leave Idlib,added Zarif.
According to Zarif, dealing with the humane affairs and return of refugees has already started and the neighbouring countries have an important role to this end.
More than 330,000 people have been killed in Syria and millions have been driven from their homes since the conflict began in March 2011, and the infrastructure of the country destroyed.
Iran and Russia have also formed a strong alliance in recent years, with both supporting the Syrian government against foreign-backed militancy.
