1 killed. 29 others injured as suspicious explosions rock Iraqi capital

At least 1 people killed and 29 others were injured in as Three suspicious explosions hit an armament depot in Abu Dshir area south of Iraqi capital, Baghdad on Monday evening.

Iran Press/Middle East: Baghdad Fire Department said the explosions were caused by a fire in an armament depot south of Baghdad and as a result several Katyusha rockets hit residential areas.

The Iraqi Ministry of Health said that 29 people, mainly children were injured in the explosion, according to IRNA news agency.

An Al Mayadeen news agency correspondent reported that the explosions were caused by shells hitting the base held by al-Hashd al-Sha'abi or Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) located in the Abu Dshir area, according to preliminary information.

Video from the site showed clouds of smoke billowing from one of the weapons stores belonging to the PMU.

Security sources said the facility stored short-range and Katyusha missiles.

Al-Ain news reported that an unidentified aircraft carried out the attack on the base to which the PMU recently transferred heavy weapons and missiles.

Reuters reported that the explosions were caused by a large fire at the weapons depot and injured 29 people when rockets stored in the depot went off and hit neighborhoods in the area.
