Ending incursion into Syria is a must: Zarif

Iranian Foreign Minister wrote on Twitter that the imperative now is to end the incursion into Syria and address all concerns through Adana accord.

Iran PressIran news: "It is essential that the core principles of JUS IN BELLO are fully observed," the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif emphasized.

He added that there must be a distinction between civilians and combatants, and inflicting unnecessary suffering must be prohibited.

International humanitarian law, or JUS IN BELLO, is the law that governs the way in which warfare is conducted. IHL is purely humanitarian, seeking to limit the suffering caused.

Adana accord is an agreement signed on 20 October 1998 in Adana between Syria and Turkey. The agreement urges the Syrian authorities to fight against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) on their territory. It is one of the precursors to the normalization of relations between the two countries.

Turkey launched the new military operation so-called "Operation Peace Spring" in northeastern Syria on October 9.

Ankara says it aims to establish a security zone near its border, fight terrorists and return Syrian refugees to their homes.
