Air defenses of the pro-government Popular Mobilization Forces have shot down an invading UAV in Diyala province, eastern Iraq.

Iran PressMiddle East: In a statement on Wednesday night, Hashd al-Shaabi, or Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) said the 26th Brigade's air defense systems in Diyala province targeted and shot down an invading drone that was intended to attack the Iraqi army positions.

The technical squad of PMF 26th Brigade was able to intercept the drone in the Kan'an area of Diyala province and immediately shot down it using technical equipments, the statement said.

The announcement, without giving further details, indicated that the drone carrying out reconnaissance of areas for possible attack to Iraqi army units in the coming days, but failed.

Earlier, PMF air defense systems reportedly thwarted an airstrike by an “unidentified” unmanned aerial vehicle on a main military base in the country’s northern-central province of Salahuddin.

The Salahuddin Operations Command Center of PMF announced in a statement that missile defense systems fired shots at the drone as it was flying over the headquarters of the 35th Brigade of the fighters, better known by the Arabic word Hashd al-Sha’abi, Iraq's al-Ahad television network reported on Wednesday.

The statement added that the shots forced the aircraft to leave the area to an unknown location.
