Kyiv (IP) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed hope that the war with Russia might conclude more quickly through diplomatic channels following the potential inauguration of a new U.S. administration led by Republican Donald Trump in 2025.

Iran Press/Europe: Speaking on Friday, Zelensky emphasized Kyiv's commitment to pursuing peace talks over military solutions. “We must do everything we can to ensure that this war ends next year,” he stated during a radio interview. “Diplomatic routes are critical, and this, I believe, is very important,” he added.

On Saturday, Zelensky reiterated his optimism, suggesting that Trump’s return to the White House could accelerate the conflict’s resolution. He described a recent phone call with Trump, following his election victory earlier this month, as “constructive” and underscored the potential for progress in diplomatic negotiations.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed Moscow's conditions for any peace agreement. In a Kremlin statement released on Friday, Putin insisted that any deal must recognize Russia's territorial gains and security demands, including Ukraine abandoning its aspirations to join NATO.

Russia has consistently maintained that its special military operation in the Donbas region were aimed at halting NATO’s encroachment on its borders.
