Iran Press/ America: The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has described the situation on the ground in Gaza, from hospitals conducting operations without anaesthetics to the fact that a child is killed every 10 minutes.
Gaza's dire humanitarian crisis intensifies as the World Health Organization reports a devastating toll, with a child killed every 10 minutes amid Israel's relentless military campaign.
"Hospital corridors crammed with the injured, the sick, the dying. Morgues overflowing. Surgery without anesthesia. Tens of thousands of displaced people sheltering at hospitals," Tedros told the 15-member council.
"Tens of thousands of displaced people sheltering at hospitals, families crammed into overcrowded schools, desperate for food and water. More than 10,800 people have now been killed in Gaza. Almost 70% of them, women and children," Ghebreyesus told the 15-member council.
"On average, a child is killed every 10 minutes in Gaza," Ghebreyesus said.
Since October 7, the WHO has verified more than 250 attacks on Gaza's healthcare system.
Thousands of Palestinians on Friday fled from around Gaza City's main hospital after a series of strikes that staff blamed on Israel hit in and around several hospitals overnight. They joined a growing exodus of people toward the south amid intensified fighting as Gaza officials said the Palestinian death toll from the war surpassed 11,000 people.
