The United Nations Day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to uphold the principles of peace, human rights, and shared prosperity - values enshrined in the United Nations Charter when it was adopted in 1945.

Peace, dignity, and equality, on a healthy planet. That is what the United Nations strives towards. But the reality is that our world is a far distance away from this ideal and unfortunately finds itself in a crisis of multiple dimensions.

I wish to take a moment to reflect on the immense suffering of civilians because of the ongoing conflicts, especially in the Middle East. A huge number of them are women and children. Also, an unprecedented number of our own United Nations colleagues have lost their lives.

This vicious cycle of violence must stop.

The United Nations Secretary-General has consistently emphasized that under international law civilians must be protected everywhere and has consistently been calling for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and a two-state solution. The Secretary-General has also called for the urgent need to avoid further regional escalation.

Displacement is so significant in scale that we need to move forward together to solve it. We must ensure that we do not take our eyes off inclusive and sustainable development, development for all.

On the part of the UN, we are making the organization fit for purpose to better support Member States in the 21st century. To this end, the "UN 2.0" encapsulates the Secretary-General's vision of a modern UN family, rejuvenated by a forward-thinking culture and empowered by cutting-edge skills for the twenty-first century to turbocharge our support to people and the planet.

We will strive towards this vision, utilizing innovation, data, digital, foresight, and behavioral science a dynamic combination of culture and modalities that we call the "Quintet of Change". It is about evolution towards a more agile, diverse, responsive, and impactful UN.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank our partners many of whom are in this room today - the authorities, our Member States partners and donors, NGOs, private sector partners, and media professionals, who have done so much to collaborate on common development and humanitarian goals.

We can never forget that the United Nations was established "to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war", "to regain faith in fundamental human rights" and "to promote the economic and social advancement of all the peoples".

Thank you.
