Iran Press/ America: The Senate overwhelmingly confirmed Antony Blinken to be the nation’s 71st secretary of state on Tuesday as lawmakers gathered to approve Joe Biden's Cabinet nominees before impeachment proceedings begin against his predecessor.
In a strong show of bipartisan support, the final Senate tally was 78 to 22 and included "yes" votes from several top Republicans.
Senator Rand Paul was one of Blinken's opponents in the US Senate, criticizing US President Joe Biden's policies, as well as Blinken, on invading Iraq, invading Libya and invading Syria, creating chaos and spending trillions of dollars.
The Associated Press reports that Blinken will have the task of carrying out Biden's task of reversing Trump's "America First" thesis, which has weakened US international coalitions.
Blinken will become America’s top diplomat as the world confronts a confluence of threats: the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and a great-power competition that increasingly puts the United States against China on trade, technology and other issues. 219
