Iran Press/ America: US President Donald Trump said that the measure was taken in response to Turkey's commitment to stop its offensives in northern Syria.
Trump had also previously announced the withdrawal of the last American soldiers from northeastern Syria, provoking outrage from some fellow Republicans, Politico website reported.
"Today's announcement validates our course of action with Turkey, that only a couple of weeks ago was scorned. And now people are saying, 'Wow, what a great outcome, congratulations,'" Trump said, flanked by Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and national security adviser Robert O'Brien.
Earlier this month, the US administration sanctioned Turkey's energy and defense ministries as well as three senior Turkish officials. The Trump administration also raised tariffs on steel up to 50 percent, and halted a $100 billion trade deal with Turkey.

Yet, despite Turkey's halting its offensive in northeast Syria, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu had said that his country is still ready to repel 'terrorists', a term Ankara uses for the formerly US-backed Kurdish militia.
According to Sputnik, as the five-day ceasefire ended, on Tuesday night, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed that Russian military police and Syrian border guards would facilitate the withdrawal of the Kurdish militia from an 18-mile safe zone on the Syria-Turkey border within 150 hours.
