Tehran (IP) - The US sanctions have pressured some countries to avoid paying their debts to Iran, said the Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Iran PressIran news: Nasser Kanaani told reporters at his weekly press conference on Monday, July 24, that due to the US illegal sanctions, business and commercial exchanges between Iran and different countries have been hindered.

Kanaani said: "Some countries, including Iraq, failed to pay their debts to Iran because of the blockage of inter-bank transactions by the US sanctions."

He referred to South Korea as a country with debts to Iran, saying the Korean officials have given promises in recent negotiations, the implementation of which is expected.

With regard to Iraq, Kanaani said that the Iraqi government has transferred its debts to Iran to a bank within the soil of Iraq and has issued permission to transfer a part of the money outside of the Iraqi bank.  

"Iran keeps on efforts to receive these debts, seriously following up the issue at different levels. We have made progress, but we need full collection of the debts," he noted.

Kanaani also said: "The visit of regional officials, including Oman and Qatar, is part of the framework of having relations with those countries."

He further added: "Another part is within the framework of the joint efforts of these countries and the initiatives of our neighboring countries, including Oman and Qatar, who are willing to use their capacities and the good relations they have with both sides and the parties to the JCPOA to help advance the talks on lifting sanctions and the return of all extremisms to dialogue and unblocking Iran's assets and exchanging prisoners."

Iran's Top diplomat further stressed: "Iran adheres to diplomacy, and we still consider it the best way to fulfill the rights of the Iranian nation. We also welcomed the positive initiatives of the regional states, and the talks are continuing, and this is an active diplomatic path. We are neither optimistic nor pessimistic. We did not ignore the diplomatic dynamics and supported all ways to fulfill our rights."

Iran, Armenia to boost coop in economic field, transit

Kanaani further stated regarding the arrival of the Armenian Foreign Minister to Tehran: "We can say that the talks are going forward, but we will look at the results."

According to Kanaani, the visit of the Foreign Minister of Armenia was also made in response to the visit of the Foreign Minister of Iran

The Spokesman of Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said that Armenian FM's visit to Tehran aims to boost cooperation in economic energy, transit and within the framework of regional issues and the South Caucasus region.

Cooperation between the two countries in the field of economic energy, transit, and within the framework of regional issues and the South Caucasus region will be discussed during Armenian FM's visit to Tehran.
