Tehran (IP) – Iran's foreign minister said in a phone talk with his Swiss counterpart on Tuesday that talks on lifting sanctions against Iran would begin next week in Vienna and noted the contradictory behavior of the United States is one of the main obstacles in the negotiations.

Iran Press/Iran news: In the telephone conversation with Ignazio Cassis, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated that on the one hand, the United States expresses interest in returning to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and, on the other, has imposed sanctions on Iranian individuals and companies in two stages over the past few weeks.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran judges the United States based on its behavior.

The Iranian foreign minister also referred to the critical situation in Yemen and reiterated that Iran supports any attempt to lift the siege and end the war in Yemen.

Regarding the situation in the region and Afghanistan, he noted that Iran encourages the current governing body of Afghanistan to form an inclusive government, expressed concern about the humanitarian crisis in the country amid the cold season, and called for an international effort to address the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and for refugees.

The Swiss foreign minister also announced readiness to cooperate in transferring aid to Afghanistan through Iran.

In the end, Ignazio Cassis said that his country agrees with Iran to form an inclusive government in Afghanistan and praised Tehran for finding a diplomatic solution in Afghanistan and hosting refugees.

Under a 2015 deal called JCPOA, Iran curbed its uranium enrichment program to lift economic sanctions. Still, former US President Donald Trump quit the agreement in 2018, and know the Israeli regime is the main opposition to US efforts to revive the deal.
