Iran Press/ Iran News: On the sidelines of the National Day of the Persian Gulf in Army University, Gholamreza Tahani said in an exclusive interview with Iran Press that April 29 is called National Day of the Persian Gulf in the Iranian calendar which reminds the Iranian nation's fight against colonialism.
Referring to the history of the Persian Gulf, he said: "A few centuries ago Imam Quli Khan (an Iranian military and political leader who served as a governor of Fars, Lar, and Bahrain for the Abbas the Great the 5th Safavid Shah of Iran emphasized that this region belongs to Iran and resisted against Portugal colonialism. His action highlighted this message that this region is not and will not be a place for colonialism.
Tahani added that today the Islamic Republic of Iran declares that colonialism, especially the United States has no place in the region. The unilateralism period of the United States is over in the region.
Persian Gulf Day is a very important day for the Iranian people and it is celebrated annually on 30 April. It has taken place every year since 2004 and is marked with various ceremonies in Iran, especially in the coastal cities of the Persian Gulf.
