Iran Press/ Iran News: Khatibzadeh wrote in a Twitter message on Monday: “US warmongers have always used gullible journalists to sell their folly."
"Under Bush [administration] they used them to sell the $7 trillion Iraq War. Now they are at it again, using Politico to peddle lies,” Iranian foreign ministry spokesman noted.
“US media needs to be vigilant so as not to be used by politicians,” he added.
Khatibzadeh was referring to the 'Madison Dinners', which the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is bringing them back despite wide criticisms by Democrats as a questionable use of taxpayer dollars, and State Department employees being skeptical of their diplomatic value. the dinners were postponed for months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Some State Department officials have complained about the dinners, saying they have little to do with diplomacy and will unduly burden the staff amid a pandemic.
Regarding the dinners, the spokesman published a photo that says Politico's owner has also attended a Madison Dinner.
