Qom (IP) - Millions of people flocked to the streets of Qom near Hazrat Masoumeh Holy Shrine in unprecedented mourning processions in the holy city to bid farewell to Lieutenant-General Qasem Soleimani and his martyred companions, who were assassinated by the US.

Iran PressIran News: Hours after huge crowds of people took part in the funeral of Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani the late commander of Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) and his martyred companions in Tehran in the morning, the glorious funeral processions of martyr Soleimani was held with the attendance of massive crowds in the holy city of Qom.

The burial ceremony of this great commander of Islam is scheduled to be held in Kerman in his hometown on Tuesday.

The United States forces assassinated Lt. General Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s pro-government Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) — better known as Hashd al-Sha’abi — in an airstrike at Baghdad’s international airport early on Friday.

He was invited to Baghdad by Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to convey Iran's message to him on Iran and Saudi relations. As Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi said, General Soleimani was invited to Iraq to convey the message of Iranian officials about Tehran- Riyadh ties to the Iraqi Prime Minister.

In this regard, separate ceremonies were also held in Tehran, Mashhad, and Ahvaz. Tehran's Funeral was one of the world's largest funeral processions with the attendance of millions of Iranians.

The media around the world were surprised by the presence of millions of Iranian people, covering the huge and massive funeral procession of martyr Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani.
