Iran Press/ Africa: During this event, The Eastern regional Shia Imam, Sheikh Ahmed emphasized the importance of common values that unify the entire Muslim ummah.“We should not focus on factors that divide us,” Instead, we should embrace the core values of love and forgiveness that unite people of all races.”
Furthermore, Dr Nasir, Sunni Imam, highlighted that the Islamic Unity Week commemorates the legacy of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He emphasized that this week spreads the message of peace, empathy, and friendship among true followers of Prophet Mohammadi Islam (PBUH), demonstrating the unity of Muslims.
Mujeeb Muhammed, a lecturer at the Islamic University of Ghana, encouraged Muslims to emulate the legacy of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who exemplified love and kindness toward all people.
He also commended and hailed Imam Khomeini’s philosophical ideas in establishing this unity week “Indeed this is a significant occasion that marks the birth of the prophet Muhammad (SAW) and it is very much important and for that matter, the birth of prophet Muhammad SAW in the way we have celebrated it was instituted by Imam Khomeini and he called it the Unity Week.
The Ghanian scholar added that Imam Khomeini called it Unity Week because there are differences of opinion from the Shi’a perspective and the Sunni perspective about the exact date of the Birth of Prophet SAW. From the Sunni perspective, He was born on the 12th of Rabi’ul Awwal, and from the Shi’a perspective on the 17th of Rabi’ul Awwal, thus, Imam Khomeini realizing that there was a need for unity among Muslims, instituted the Unity Week wherein Muslims from all walks of life and from a different perspective will come together and celebrate one person that is unique to them, one that brings them all together and that is Prophet SAW”.
